Swim Lessons in Golden BC

High quality, fun and individualized
private & semi-private swim lessons.

Swim with the best.
Swim with Kim!

As an experienced Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, NCCP swim coach and National Lifeguard, I provide swim lessons that are safe, fun, and high quality.

  • Licensed and insured
  • Instructor has over two decades’ worth of experience teaching people how to swim and is a certified lifeguard

The kids love their lessons and look forward to their weekly swim. Their parents love that their child learns safety and self-rescue skills, develops their athletic abilities, get lots of exercise, and has a weekly activity that brings them joy and happiness!

Consistency is important for success when learning new skills, especially for kids! It takes one or two lessons for swimmers to get in to the routine and learn to trust the instructor . Significant improvements are usually seen by the third or fourth lesson!

Winter 2026

Success! You're on the list.

Semi-private lesson are encouraged for most!

During covid, when I started this venture, I was limited to private lessons only due to physical distancing requirements and overall safety. Now those days are over (yay!) we can invite others in on the fun! Many kids do really well in a semi-private setting. Here’s why: they have their friend with them and it makes it exciting. Each child tends to encourage the other to move outside of their comfort zone and practice new skills and learn more quickly. A child’s fears or hesitations tend to take a backseat when they see their friend having fun and not being hesitant. That said, some children truly do better 1:1, and I’ll always endeavor to provide my swimmers with the best learning experience for *them* as an individual.

Pre-Registration vs General Registration

I open pre-registration before general registration. Pre-registration is for folks ready to commit to regular weekly lessons for a given period (eg. Set 1 or Set 5), with priority given to returning swimmers. Often, most spots are booked in pre-registration.

Any dates and times not booked in pre-registration are then made available during general registration. General registration gets announced via my email list.

Booking and Cancellation Policies:

  • Communication: I want your child’s lessons to be the best possible experience they can be! This means that we should communicate regularly about your child’s progress, what your expectations and goals are for your child, and if you have feedback or requests for me. Before they start, I ask you about their experience level, how they learn best, and what your goal(s) are with the sessions. Please don’t hesitate to email, call or book a time to chat with me so that we are on the same page 🙂 It’s best to have check-in chats off the pool deck, since I don’t typically have enough time to chat while I’m in teacher mode. I issue written progress reports every 4 or 5 lessons so that you can keep track of what we’ve been working on and what they’ve improved.
  • Payment: Bookings aren’t considered final until payment is received. Lessons booked during pre-registration must be paid in full in advance. Invoices are issued for all sessions up front, or can be split in two payments. Please send E-transfers to kim@assurefit.ca
  • Sick Policy for Semi-Private lessons: If a swimmer needs to cancel, they will not be issued a refund even if the reason is due to illness. If your swimmer doesn’t attend due to illness, yes we can sub in another kiddo – just check in with me & the other parent before doing so. If I need to cancel due to my own illness, I will issue a 100% refund for that session.
  • I will refuse access to the pool if the swimmer is showing signs of being visibly sick.
  • Please do remain respectful and mindful of not attending while sick. Swimming isn’t fun for a kid who is unwell! Further, since I’m (a) in the water and can’t wear a mask  (b) usually within spitting distance and unable to maintain physical distancing (c) swimmers end up unintentionally coughing, sneezing, or spittle-ing in my face/eyes/mouth, I’m at high risk of picking up germs. I’m just one small self-employed operator, please understand that if I get sick and have to cancel work (at swimming lessons or at the gym through the personal training I offer) then I don’t have income.

Thank you so much.  I appreciate your lessons.
It’s really great that you’ve been able to help students here in Golden under such difficult circumstances.
I recommend you to everyone.

Faye, November 2020

Thanks again the lessons were amazing! I can’t tell you enough how amazing you are with all of the kids, the prep work, energy and individuality you put into each lesson doesn’t go unnoticed! Can’t wait for more!

Heather, April 2021

Thank you so much for all your work, care and patience with my son. And encouraging his love of water. It’s amazing to see how he has improved. He looked forward to lessons every week.

K, may 2022

I trained with Kim over the winter and then I dropped like at least five seconds from each stroke.

Nathan (Golden dolphins swimmer), July 2022

Thanks for the great lesson yesterday. It was so neat to see Aven’s progression and confidence increase after just 2 lessons. I can’t believe she is sticking her head under water!

Michelle, December 2022

I help others learn to swim, be confident in the water, and have fun while they learn. With over two decades’ of experience as a swim coach & instructor, I break down the progressions to small manageable chunks so that my swimmers succeed and build confidence. I mix the progressions with a healthy dose of fun, because swimming and being physically active should be fun! Fun and play are key aspects to creating life-long swimmers.

For children, I typically combine water safety, swimming proficiency, and fitness/athletic development; however, I’m sure to ask for input from parents/guardians as to what they hope to get from their child’s participation in lessons. I then narrow my focus on specific goals.

I leverage my in-depth knowledge of fitness and athlete development from my work as a strength & conditioning coach/personal trainer and have my swimmers hone their overall athleticism.

My approach is flexible, adaptive and based on the needs and interests of each swimmer. I love swimming and I hope you will too!

Kim swam competitively at the provincial and national levels for 16 years with the Williams Lake Blue Fins and the University of Victoria. She still competes from time to time at the Golden Dolphins annual meet, and in open water swimming.
